SUCCESSION PLANNING

Hi everyone.

So I chosen this video as it directly links with our Roger case study as succession planning is a central element of a family business structure.

Succession planning is something that happens all over the world. This video is set in a setting of an Indian Business culture.

Succession planning cannot be thought of as having one answer or being straightforward. It is a complex series of ideas and implementation techniques that can lead to the success or failure of a business.

I chose this video because it gives an analogy from the practice of breeding race horses.

Sadhguru (the key speaker in the video) suggests that instead of getting concerned about how to develop his or her children to run the business, a business owner should focus on building a sound business. When the right time comes, it should be handed to the most capable person available, who need not necessarily be the owner’s child.

This suggests that one should ignore issues such as gender succession, which is the most common form of succession when the business is given to the male head of the family.

Please watch it at comment below about what you think about this metaphor. I respond very well to creative forms of thinking so I really understand my learning through out of the box thinking.

Enjoy!
