  1. Hi Maheen,

I really like your idea of finishing the semester with a last newsletter, which summarizes and emphasizes the most important issues we covered in our last class.

You mentioned the importance of consultants for family businesses. I think it is very much true that each and every family and their business is a different case and this requires a different approach.

Furthermore I liked the quote of Henry Ford, which sums up the issue and further challenge of working successfully together especially as a family.

The article discussing about the discrepancies between families and their business and addressing the question what comes first, is quite interesting as well. In my opinion it is essential to separate business and family concerns, and concentrate on being regional when it comes to business matters.

Finally, you critically reflected on the Ilapak case and highlighted your major concern. I actually share your opinion. Rogers decision to send his son and Luciano away, just enables him to be entirely in charge of the business, run and control it on his own. The management is again centered on one autocratic leader, Roger, who can be considered a monarch. He will never leave office, only if he is forced by his death or a serious disease. Unfortunately, as you already mentioned this egoistic behavior might have severe consequences for the family business and might even lead to insolvency in the long run.
